Polystyrene thickness: which one to choose?
Not sure which thickness to choose? Below is a quick guide based on building type and climate conditions. If in doubt, we will help select the optimal option for your project.
| Thickness | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| 50 mm | Minimal additional insulation for already insulated buildings or facades where thickness increase is limited. Provides a small effect and is mainly used as a corrective or decorative solution rather than full insulation. |
| 80 mm | Initial level of thermal insulation for relatively warm walls or regions with mild climate. Used in Europe for renovations but does not meet modern energy efficiency requirements for new housing. |
| 100 mm | Basic option for small buildings, summer houses, or seasonal residences. Provides noticeable heat loss reduction but is considered the minimum acceptable level in colder European regions. |
| 120 mm | The most balanced solution for most residential country houses in moderate and cold climates. Ensures comfortable indoor climate and real heating savings without excessive material costs. |
| 150 mm | Complies with building standards for thermal insulation of multi-apartment residential buildings. A quality solution for energy-efficient homes with permanent residence. |
| 200 mm | Maximum insulation level for northern regions or nearly zero-energy buildings (NZEB). Used where minimal heat loss is the priority. |
The thicker the polystyrene, the better the thermal insulation. We will help you choose the optimal thickness for your building.
Installation and storage recommendations
Installation:
- Surface preparation: The facade must be clean, dry, and even before installation. Remove all irregularities and defects if necessary.
- Marking: Carefully mark panel placement starting from the bottom row.
- Fixing: Panels are fixed to the wall using special dowels and polyurethane adhesive foam. Follow manufacturer recommendations regarding fixing quantity and placement.
- Joint grouting: After installation, joints between tiles must be filled with special grout to ensure sealing and aesthetic appearance.
Storage:
- Store thermal panels in a dry, ventilated area protected from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Panels should be stored horizontally on a flat surface to prevent deformation.
